THE STORM

It all started when my dad checked the weather on Thusday night . There was a warning of bad weather , my dad said to my mom that they would move me to the basement when the storm started. So they put me to sleep in the guest bedroom. At about 11:30 or 40 they took me and my baby sister downstairs to the basement. When my dad put me down I woke up and said “teddy” so my dad gave me my favorite one .  Then I said ” NO NO” half asleep but anyway my dad gave it to me .then a few minutes later the first hail storm started. the hail was the size of golf balls. But anyway I slept through it !

The next day there was a chance of another storm coming . we didn’t expect it to be as bad as it was when it hit Carterville. But because we didn’t know it would be that bad we just started on a normal day the only thing that was abnormal was that we had a special journal entry.then a few seconds later we saw dark clouds coming, but since we knew that would happen we weren’t scared. It then started hailing. Some people were scared but I “bravely” raised my hand and told the teacher Mrs. Griffin that I liked hailstorms. Then the hailstorm got really bad that’s when the first storm cell started. We ran to the bathroom (our safety place) and sat down (we were lucky that our room was right accross the bathroom we got to lean against the wall.) Then the other classes came. We all sat down, then our teacher Mrs.Griffin read us a book called Goldisocks and the three “libearians”. It was HILARIOUS! Then the bad wind started . The school principal Mrs. Barnstable came on the loudspeaker and said” BOYS AND GIRLS GO TO YOUR SEVERE WEATHER POSES”, so we did what the principal said. Then Mrs. Griffin said “Iknow you can’t see the pictures so imagine whats happening in your head.” so we did. We stayed in the bathroom for one hour. It got so late that it was time for fourth grade to eat lunch. They were eating their lunch when the storm started. The roof lifted off and settled back on, the  4th graders would have been scared. Back in our bathroom filled with 96 people our heads started hurting, then a few minutes later the principal came on the loudspeaker and said “BOYS AND GIRLS 2ND GRADE WILL BE EATING LUNCH AFTER 4TH GRADE IS DONE. I couldn’t believe it was that late. It sure was a surprise! After that my class played a game called heads up 7 up. It was fun . Then we went to the cafeteria to eat lunch. Then when we were done we went back to  class. In class, we were working on a Mothers Day project because it was only 1 day away. Another class called mr. Truebloods class came over because we had the flowers for the mothers day craft (a flowerpot.) The people who were done or waiting (including me ) were watching a movie called lion king 1 1/2 when the second cell started. we had to run to the bathroom as fast as we could. A boy from a class called Mrs. koonce’s class read a Shell Silverstien ( a famous poet ) book to us, when the lights started flashing like dico lights . Then the principal came on the loud speaker and said “BOYS AND GIRLS PLEASE RETURN TO YOUR SEVERE WEATHER POSES ” so we did . that time we stayed on our heads two crisp hours. Our heads hurt so much that 2 girls in my class cried . 1 girl cried alot her hair got wet another cried like a maniac! she got her bangs wet and there was a puddle on the floor in front of her. when we got back in the clasroom the teacher said ” Get your backpacks and you don’t need to take our planners home, so we packed up . The office called our parents and said “THE BUSSES WILL TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HOME “and hung up .So my dad stayed home and after some time the office called again and said “THE BUSSES CAN’T RUN YOU HAVE TO COME AND PICK YOUR CHILDREN UP” . My dad was one of the last ones to handle a call so I was one of the last people to leave. On the way home there were lot of damages. There were trees everywhere, lots of roads were blocked, but luckily I could  get home. My dad told me to look at HUCKS (a gas station). I freaked  OUT! The whole place was DOWN ! When i got home I noticed that even the house didn’t have power. We stayed like that for about 6 days! we listened to our radio about the storm cleanup  and to also have an idea of what was happening. The next day ( still without power) my dad read the newspaper, it said that the storm was a meso hurricane that meant it was an inland hurricane and also it read that weathermen found that the storm had an eye. That really freaked me out. I then switched the radio on and it said that we would probably get it on tuesday midnight but we didn’t. The next day wednesday, we got our power back

:-( ( I’m not smiling because i liked the dark ) but i was a teensy bit happy. That night there was another big storm we lost power for several minutes other people lost their power again, but we had our power so we let my friend brianna and her sister and mom come over. We planned to have a sleepover with Brianna. we had the sleep over and during the sleepover Brianna’s house got power . The next day we made a card for our friends birthday. she then left. The next day, it was party day wich is the same day I completed the story of THE STORM .

A letter to Megan – facts about India

Facts About India . . .

Hi Megan I know you wanted to learn about India so I ‘ll tell you some .

We ‘ ll start with the country ‘s national language , it’s Hindi . Look below to see Hindi numbers.

( Ache ) – one

( DOUGH ) – two

(TEEN) -three

(CHARR ) – four

(PAANCH ) – five

(CHAY ) – six

( SAWT ) – seven

( ART ) -eight

( NOW ) nine

( DUS ) ten

Now we will go to polite rules .

  1. To show an elder that you respect him ,bow down and touch his feet.

  2. It is rude to sit with the bottom of your shoes showing .

  3. It is impolite to point at your feet.

Now that you have learned some rules we’ll move on to clothing.

Women in India wear beautiful dresses called saris , look below to see how to put on a sari

  1. get a long cloth approximately 5 feet long !

  2. Wrap one end of the cloth around your waist three or four times . If the cloth ends up on the right cross it across to the left side then drape it over your shoulder if it ends up on the left do the opposite. Men in India mostly wear long shirts up to their knees and pants under them . ( I forgot what the pant and shirt were called EEK !)

Coming to the “ dot” things ,in Hindi they are called Bindis ( BIN-dees )in my language they are Bottus ( BOH -toos , it might sound a little funny to you .)

Now coming to important holidays there is Independence day like

    when Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi for short freed India from England without war (just like America except for the no war part!) and there’s Diwali or Deepavali it’s a celebration of lights. There’s many other holidays

in India especially celebrations for our 1,900 gods ( not for all of them whew !) and victory celebrations . Most people in India don’t eat meat.

THAT WAS A LOT OF FACTS ! ( believe it or not I typed this all by myself )

So bye !

Sincerely,

Neha your B.F.F.
