A letter to Megan – facts about India

Facts About India . . .

Hi Megan I know you wanted to learn about India so I ‘ll tell you some .

We ‘ ll start with the country ‘s national language , it’s Hindi . Look below to see Hindi numbers.

( Ache ) – one

( DOUGH ) – two

(TEEN) -three

(CHARR ) – four

(PAANCH ) – five

(CHAY ) – six

( SAWT ) – seven

( ART ) -eight

( NOW ) nine

( DUS ) ten

Now we will go to polite rules .

  1. To show an elder that you respect him ,bow down and touch his feet.

  2. It is rude to sit with the bottom of your shoes showing .

  3. It is impolite to point at your feet.

Now that you have learned some rules we’ll move on to clothing.

Women in India wear beautiful dresses called saris , look below to see how to put on a sari

  1. get a long cloth approximately 5 feet long !

  2. Wrap one end of the cloth around your waist three or four times . If the cloth ends up on the right cross it across to the left side then drape it over your shoulder if it ends up on the left do the opposite. Men in India mostly wear long shirts up to their knees and pants under them . ( I forgot what the pant and shirt were called EEK !)

Coming to the “ dot” things ,in Hindi they are called Bindis ( BIN-dees )in my language they are Bottus ( BOH -toos , it might sound a little funny to you .)

Now coming to important holidays there is Independence day like

    when Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi for short freed India from England without war (just like America except for the no war part!) and there’s Diwali or Deepavali it’s a celebration of lights. There’s many other holidays

in India especially celebrations for our 1,900 gods ( not for all of them whew !) and victory celebrations . Most people in India don’t eat meat.

THAT WAS A LOT OF FACTS ! ( believe it or not I typed this all by myself )

So bye !

Sincerely,

Neha your B.F.F.
